Painted Brick: A Defined Process

White painted brick colonial home

I’ve lived in my home for 25 years; I’ve wanted to paint it white for the past 15 years. Does this surprise anyone? Lol.

Painting my brick is not a decision I took lightly; trust me, I did tons of research. When painting brick, it 100% has to be done the right way so you don’t compromise the integrity of your brick. Moisture can get trapped in the brick due to paint holding it in, and when that moisture freezes and expands, it can degrade the brick. With that being said, it is essential to use mineral paint on your brick. Unlike traditional latex and acrylic paint which will trap the moisture in the brick, mineral paint will allow your brick to breathe.

I used @romabiopaints Masonry Flat paint and had it tinted Alabaster by Sherwin Williams. I love that Romabio masonry paints are made specifically for painting brick and stone. Their paint is an extremely durable, long-lasting product that won’t peel or flake off. Their paints also have a high-UV resistance and are naturally mold-resistant, which is super important. It will not peel or flake, and has a 20-year warranty.
