Style evolves, trends change, tastes mature, and that is all perfectly fine. You don’t have to commit to one style your entire life. However, in order to avoid wasting money, it’s best to define what your base is. Do you love the ornate lines of European antiques or are you more apt to be drawn to clean, modern lines of today’s styles? If you ask yourself, “What am I drawn to?” or “What stirs emotion within me?”, you have probably already defined your style. Style is a personal concept. It is instrumental in creating your “haven” or “comfort zone.” It is what works for you and your family. Don’t allow others to dictate your tone. Draw from inspiration you uncover but remember not everything you see will work with what you are trying to accomplish. It’s ok to appreciate different styles and still be comfortable with your own approach. Accept that you will make mistakes, don’t ever try to talk yourself into a specific color or piece of furniture. If it doesn’t work for you, move forward and remember there will always be something new and exciting to come. Patience is key.
